Water Rockets (Grades 4-5) Special Event: You don't need to be present to win!

Make at home.

You must turn in your rocket to Mrs. Vitale before the end of the day Friday, April 20. Or, bring your rocket with you to Science Olympiad on April 21. Label your rocket with your name, teacher, grade, and the amount of water (measured in ml) that you'd like inside your rocket.

If you want to participate in this event, make sure you register for the event prior to the April 19 deadline (whether you'll be present or not).

You don't need to be present to win, but those students who are present may modify their rockets on site between launches. You must bring your own modification materials with you.

Here are the rules for Water Rockets (Grades 4 - 5). You may choose to work alone, or with a group of up to 3 participants. Prior to the tournament, teams of 1-3 participants use 2-liter Pepsi plastic soda/pop bottles to build one or more rockets propelled by air pressure and water. The rocket that stays aloft for the longest time will win.

You may use the Internet for help. However, pay attention to the rules of this competition--ie. no glue of any kind because glue weakens the integrity of the bottle. Use Duck Tape instead of glue.

Use a Pepsi product 2-Liter bottle! Other brands' bottlenecks are too narrow and won't fit onto the rocket launcher. Here is the launching device, the Bigfoot Water Rocket Launcher: http://www.h2orocket.com/topic/littlefootplus/littlefootplus.html Here are some helpful sites: http://exploration.grc.nasa.gov/education/rocket/BottleRocket/about.htm
